A Lista Vermelha da IUCN (IUCN 2001) considara, se que uma espécie ocorre em menos de 10 localidades ameaçadas com uma área de ocorrência estimada (EOO) inferior a 20.000 km quadrados, ela deva ser considerada como vulnerável ou ameaçada. <i>Pristimantis attenboroughi</i> tem EOO de 66,54 km quadrados, sendo conhecida em 7 localidades distribuídas nas áreas que margeam a Floresta de Proteção de Pui Pui, no Peru. Considerando que a espécie possa ocorrer em áreas ainda não reportadas dentro do Bosque de Proteção do Pui Pui, os autores propõe que esta espécie seja posta na categora de quase-ameaçada.<br />

Adultos machos de <i>P</i>. <i>attenborough</i>i podem medir de 14,6 a 19,2 mm in length. As fêmeas adultas são maiores, medindo entre 19,2 2 23,0 mm. Suas cores variam de cinza claro à escuro, or marrom-avermelhado para marrom-oliva com pequenas manchas cinza-escuro. Os juvenis são mais pálidos, com uma coleração amarelada ou marrom-avermelhada, com pequenas manchas marrons e às vezes listras.<br />
<br />
Como muitos de seu gênero, o sapo-de-borracha-de-Attenborough é terrestre e deposita seus ovos no solo.<br />

"De acordo com Barros <i>et al</i>. (2016), as saúvas, formigas cortadeiras do gênero <i>Atta</i>, não atacam a rã <i>Lithodytes lineatus</i> (da família Leptodactylidae), mas agridem outras espécies de anuros (sapos, rãs e pererecas). De acordo com o biólogo, experimentos realizados com sapos <i>Rhinella major</i>, embebidos com extratos feitos a partir da pele da rã <i>L</i>. <i>lineatus</i>, mostraram que eles foram protegidos do ataque das formigas, enquanto indivíduos da mesma espécie embebidos apenas com água ultrapura foram atacados.<br />

A hipótese apontada é que a pele da rã possui substâncias químicas que imitam o reconhecimento químico usado pelas formigas cortadeiras do gênero <i>Atta"</i> (texto retirado de <a href="http://agencia.fapesp.br/estudo_do_inpa_descreve_especie_de_ra_que_utiliza_mecanismo_para_viver_em_formigueiro/24290/">Revista FAPESP</a>).<br />

O sapo-flamenguinho tem hábitos diurnos que são fortemente influenciados pela sazonalidade. Seu período reprodutivo ocorre nos meses mais úmidos, de setembro a abril. Durante as estações mais secas e frias, de maio a agosto, sua atividade é praticamente interrompida e o sapo pode ficar em estado de dormência (ver Carvajalino-Fernández et al. 2013).<br />

Bufonídeos venenosos do gênero <i>Melanophryniscus</i> contém químicos defensivos baseados em alcaloides que são obtidos (sequestrados) através de sua alimentação contendo artrópodes. Além de alcaloides obtidos através da alimentação, eles também apresentam compostos semelhantes a bufodinolídicos e indolealquilaminas. Jeckel <i>et al</i>. (2015) demonstraram a coocorrência destes compostos na pele do sapo-flamenguinho, com variação de quantidades entre sexos (machos possuem menos alcaloides e bufotenina que as fêmeas). A maioria dos alcalóides encontrados no sapo-flamengunho contém cadeias ramificadas, indicando que sua origem é provavelmente de ácaros oribatídeos. A razão de bufoteninas:alcaloides diminui nos sapos-flamenguinhos com o aumento das quantidades totais de alcaloide, sugerindo que o sapo-flamenguinho pode ser capaz de regular a síntese de bufotenina em relação ao sequestro de alcaloides.<br />

Sua coloração varia de tons de amarelo a marrom escuro, com pontos ou grânulos conspícuos. Em alguns espécimens é possível observar faixas amareas que partem de trás dos olhos para a região posterior do dorso do animal, seguindo paralelas entre si ou convergindo em padrões quem muitas vezes lembram uma ampulheta.<br />

reações alérgicas que envolvem muitos espirros, coriza e olhos

Os adultos do sapo-pé-de-pá-oriental são terrestres e passam a maior parte do tempo debaixo da terra, com atividade errática no período noturno. Eles preferem solos arenosos que escavam com a ajuda dos esporões em suas patas traseiras, fazendo um movimento em espiral. Espécimens do sapo-pé-de-pá-oriental já foram capturados há mais de 900 metros do corpo d'água mais próximo.<br />

Reprodução </h3>
<br />
A reprodução do sapo-pé-de-pá-oriental é aquática e ocorre normalmente em poças d'água temporárias. O sapo-pé-de-pá-oriental possui reprodução explosiva uma vez que haja suficientes quantidades de chuva e temperaturas entre 7,2 e 10ºC. Os ovos são fixados na vegetação submersa, podendo depositar mais de 3,000 ovos por vez. Os ovos se desenvolvem em 1 a 15 dias e o período larval varia de 14 a 60 dias de acordo com a temperatura da água. Após a metamorfose, os juvenis emigram em massa da área de reprodução, sendo que há registros de um deslocamento de 200m em 35 dias. A maturidade sexual em machos e fêmeas é atingida em 730 dias.<br />

Alguns tritões (salamandras da subfamília Pleurodelinae) possuem uma neurotoxina (uma toxina capaz de atacar o sistema nervoso) chamada tetradotoxina (TTX; em alguns lugares a mesma toxina é chamada de “tarichatoxina”, por causa do gênero de tritões Taricha).<br />
<br />
Além de alguns tritões norte-americanos, a TTX também é econtrada em alguns tritões asiáticos e europeus, baiacús, bactérias marinhas, nematelmintos, platelmintos, moluscos e inclusive em algumas espécies de anuros (sapos, rãs e pererecas).<br />
<br />A TTX (C11H17N3O8) é a substância não-proteica mais tóxica conhecida. Ela age bloqueando canáis de sódio em membranas celulares excitáveis, o que efetivamente impede sinais nervosos de chegarem aos músculos. O sistema vascular relaxa, levando a queda de pressão sanguínea e choque. Os sinais nervosos que comandam seus pulmões também são cancelados.<br /><br />Algumas populações do tritão-de-pele-áspera (<i>Taricha granulosa</i>) apresenta altos níveis de TTX, fazendo com que este animais estejam listados entre os animais mais tóxicos do mundo.<br />

entre o tritão-de-pele-áspera (<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Taricha
granulosa</i>) e a seperte-de-liga (do gênero </span><i><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Thanmnophis</span></i><span lang="EN-US">) é um conhecido exemplo de co-evolução. Mutações nos genes que
codificam canais de sódio nas membranas celulares das serpente-de-liga permitem
lhes conferem resistência ao TTX dos tritões-de-pele-áspera. Enquanto isso
causa uma pressão seletiva quanto ao aumento da toxixidade nos tritões, também
há uma pressão sobre os genes que conferem resistência às serpentes. De um modo
vulgar, podemos dizer que enquanto os tritões ficam mais tóxicos, as serpentes
ficam mais resistêntes, como emu ma corrida armamentista em que um dos lados
precisa se fortalecer para de poder brigar com o outro lado, e vice-versa.</span></div>

A "cauda" na verdade é uma extensão da cloaca masculina e está presente ao longo de toda a vida adulta dos machos da espécie.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Especialistas dizem que a "cauda"</span><span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> é uma adaptação bastante útil que está relacionada ao ambiente em que este sapo é encontrado: riachos de alto gradiente, que tem correntes rápidas de água. Por causa desta "cauda" os machos conseguem depositar seu esperma diretamente na fêmea (<a href="http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fertiliza%C3%A7%C3%A3o_interna">fertilização interna</a>), sem que o esperma seja levado pela correnteza. Até onde se sabe, <i>Ascaphus truei </i>é a única espécie da América do Norte que se reproduz por fertilização interna.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"> Talvez o sapo mais famoso do gênero <i>Xenopus</i> não seja <i>Xenopus tropicalis</i> (Gray, 1864), mas </span><i style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Xenopus</i><span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> </span><i style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">laevis</i><span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> (Daudin, 1802).</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"> Vários aspectos da biologia de <i>X. laevis</i> fizeram dele um modelo animal para laboratório muito popular. Pode ser que os aspectos mais interessantes sejam: 1) esta espécie é predominantemente aquática e pode ser criada facilmente em aquário; 2) diferentemente da maioria dos anfíbios, <i>Xenopus laevis</i> come matéria orgânica "morta"; 3) é bastante tolerante às condições ambientais; e 4) pode ser induzido à ovular e copular a qualquer momento com uma simples injeção de <a href="http://portal.sergiofranco.com.br/bioinforme/index.aspx?cs=endocrinologia&ps=hormoniogonadotroficocorionico">hormônio gonadotrófico</a>. Este último aspécto fez com que <i>X</i>.<i> laevis</i> fosse muito usado em hospitais para <a href="http://blogs.estadao.com.br/herton-escobar/em-caso-de-suspeita-de-gravidez-compre-um-sapo/">testes de gravidez</a> desde a década de 1930 até os anos 1950/60.</span><br />
